The Rev. Walter Oliver (pictured, left) doesn't deny beating two boys. The children were 11 and 12 at the time. He said that the beatings were in Jesus' name and he carried out the discipline with love.
A police report states that Oliver marched in after the boys' stepfather died suddenly and announced he was taking over as man of the house. Oliver said that Pamela Paige asked him for help, because she couldn't control the two boys.Prosecutors said that the beatings with a black leather belt left marks on the boys' buttocks. Oliver denies those accusations.Prosecutor Brian Sibley says religious freedom is an outside issue in the case, and isn't a legitimate defense for Oliver. He said that it's being treated like any other child abuse case.Fun for everyone? Try our Family PageFor the latest news, stay tuned to NBC 30 Connecticut News and NBC30.com
