New Procedure May Make Veins Vanish

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Warmer weather is on its way, but for some people the prospect of wearing shorts has a chilling effect.The discoloration and swelling caused by varicose veins can cause many people stress.Danbury Hospital has a new state-of-the-art technology to solve that problem and take away the pain.
About 25 million Americans suffer from varicose veins and similar ailments. Many of them are women and it's commonly caused by pregnancy.It can also be a very painful problem.But Dr. Alan Dietzek, the chief of vascular surgery at Danbury Hospital, said the pain could soon be a thing of the past, thanks to a procedure called Vnus Closure.The treatment takes two to three minutes.A catheter is injected into the vein and heated up with radio frequency.
