Music coming from a Baptist church in one Connecticut town has some atheists singing the blues. The controversy is over some bells that ring out from the Baptist Church Belfry in the borough of Jewett City.Residents overwhelmingly love the chimes that fill their town, but one Norwich man is looking to put an end to the music...
The man is an atheist, and last month the director of the Connecticut chapter of the Americans Atheists sent the town a letter complaining of the noise and the fact that Jewett City owns the unit that plays the songs.Several residents at a meeting said they'd be willing to buy the chimes to rid the town of any potential conflict. They're also testing the volume of the chimes to make sure they don't violate any noise ordinance.NBC 30 tried to contact the Connecticut chapter of the American Atheists and calls were not returned. For the latest news, stay tuned to NBC 30 Connecticut News and NBC30.com
