Carbon Monoxide Sends 5 To New Haven Hospital

POSTED: 7:34 am EST December 13, 2006
UPDATED: 12:21 pm EST December 13, 2006

At least five people were hospitalized Wednesday morning when they were affected by carbon monoxide in their home, NBC 30 reported.

The house, at 139 Portsea St. had police and emergency crews at the scene.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless and toxic gas that is impossible to see, taste or smell.

The gas often gets into homes because of unvented kersosene and gas space heaters; leaking chimneys and furnaces; back-drafting from furnaces, gas water heaters and wood stoves.

The condition of the victims is not known.
