An op-ed piece written by a student at Central Connecticut State University for the student newspaper has sparked controversy across campus. The op-ed piece was published Wednesday in The Recorder with the headline, “Rape Only Hurts If You Fight It.”Opinion Editor John Petroski references Roman history how Sabine women were abducted and made to marry Roman men.
But Petroski goes on to say how rape is a magical experience that benefits society as a whole.“Take ugly women, for example. If it weren't for rape, how would they ever know the joy of intercourse with a man who isn't drunk?" the article read.Petroski's piece has outraged CCSU students. They have put up wanted posters for him across campus. The opinion of the paper's editorial staff is that Petroski wrote a piece of satire and that's one of the reasons editors chose to publish it.Now they're apologizing publicly. In a statement they said, “He does not support rape. He did not write an article endorsing rape. He wrote a satirical article that was printed in poor taste on behalf of the Recorder's editing staff."For the latest news, stay tuned to NBC 30 Connecticut News and NBC30.com
