Waterford Police Chase Ends In Fatal Crash

WATERFORD, Conn. -- A police chase on Route 156 in Waterford ended in a fatal crash.Police haven't revealed the name of the victim yet. But they said he sped past the community center, the library and the Jordan Village Firehouse, ending up very much off Rope Ferry Road.NBC30 found two people who saw the chase start. One of them remembers her reaction.
They said the driver didn't get past the telephone pole, hitting it so hard it knocked the transformer off. The car burst into flames.Witnesses said Waterford police cruisers were 15 to 20 seconds behind.EMS responded to the scene and the suspect was transported to L and M Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.State police are reconstructing the accident at local authorities' request.Police said the Waterford police had lost sight of the suspect and broken off the chase before the crash.For the latest news, stay tuned to NBC 30 Connecticut News and NBC30.com
