House Of Blues To Open At Mohegan Sun, MGM Grand To Open

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Dan Aykroyd brought his star power and his Harley Davidson to Mohegan Sun Wednesday for the groundbreaking ceremony. His House of Blues is part of the expansion plans.Mohegan Sun recently reported a drop in revenues but the casino is moving forward with plans for a multimillion dollar expansion.“We think the House of Blues is really the cornerstone of this expansion,” said Mitchell Etess of Mohegan Sun.
Aykroyd decided to open his 13th House of Blues after celebrating his 50th birthday at Mohegan Sun five years ago.“For us, it’s a perfect marriage because it has all the elements a House of Blues needs, established culture,” Aykroyd said.In addition to the popular music venue, the expansion will include a restaurant, retail and a 39-story hotel.Mohegan Sun is not the only casino celebrating big changes.Foxwoods' MGM Grand is set to open this weekend.Foxwoods is preparing for the opening of the MGM Grand this weekend.“For us, we are extremely optimistic and pleased with the traction for reservations and general demand,” said Gillian Murphy, general manager of MGM Grand at Foxwoods.The MGM Grand opens to the public at midnight Sunday.The multimillion dollar expansion of Mohegan Sun, including the House of Blues, is expected to be completed in October 2010.
