Police said they received several frantic 911 calls from neighbors reporting gunshots being fired around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said Edward Garland, 55, shot the woman, 33, in his home on 20 Autumn Way.Police arrived at the scene, arrested Garland and found the victim fatally shot inside the home.The victim was a nurse taking care of Garland's mother. Police said they are not sure why Garland opened fire on the victim.Neighbors said Garland often threatened the victim and fought with her before the shooting, reportedly over oatmeal and laundry.The weapon was recovered and Garland was taken into custody and transferred to Montville Troop E, where he was processed, said State Police Sgt. Paul Vance.The man's mother, who was inside, wasn't injured and was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked.Garland is being held on $1 million bond.For the latest news, stay tuned to NBC 30 Connecticut News and NBC30.com
