Animal Weighs Just 2 Pounds

A San Diego woman believes she may have the world's smallest cat.

The kitten's owner, Tiffani Kjeldergaard, said the 4-month-old is only 3.2 inches tall, reported NBC San Diego station KNSD. This fall, when he is a bit older, Heed is going to be measured for the Guinness Book of World Records.

Heed only weighs about 2 pounds, NBC reported.

Heed's competition is Mr. Peebles, from central Illinois. Mr. Peebles clinched the title of the world's smallest cat at 6.1 inches tall and 19.2 inches long.

However, the Guinness Book of World Records has already sent an application to Heed's owner.

Heed also has a younger sister, Pizzo, and they are both munchkin cats. The siblings are bred for their diminutive size, but the breed is controversial. The Humane Society has said that the animals are often inbred and frequently can have health problems. The cats have also have shorter life spans.
