HARTFORD, Conn. -- The long-stalled Front Street development project has new life from millions of dollars of grants and loans from Washington. The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development will provide a $2 million Brownfields Economic Development Initiative grant and a $5 million Section 108 Loan for construction and clean up at the Adriaen's Landing Project site, U.S. Rep. John Larson said. The Front Street project is part of the state’s massive efforts to revitalize downtown Hartford. The development zone includes the Connecticut Convention Center and the Connecticut Science Center, which is currently under construction.
The project has been stalled for several reasons. Among the problems were bids in 2004 that failed to meet the state’s criteria by not having the required financing to construct the full project.Previous Stories
