Ducks and geese are commonly discarded pets. But one unique organization is coming to rescue of the many Connecticut ducks and geese that have been left in the cold.Kim and Tony Link started the Majestic Waterfowl Sanctuary one cold winter day three years ago.
"These were all pets that people bought as ducklings and goslings and then they out grew their homes and they drop them off at ponds and rivers, wherever. They think they're going to fly away but they're domestic so they can't fly," Kim said. The Links receive rescue calls from all over the state. In total the sanctuary has given about 100 birds second chances. They said their goal is always to find them loving homes. But running a sanctuary of that kind does have its challenges.Dry weather has made water for the bird scarce and forced the Links to press the limits of their own water supply. But to them it’s simply a labor of love. "They're my other children. I know, I’m the crazy duck lady,” Kim said. Majestic Waterfow For the latest news, stay tuned to NBC 30 Connecticut News and NBC30.com
